Description

504pp., hardbound, editorial fabric printed in gold, interesting typo on title page “Hapsburgo” instead of “Habsburgo”. Spanish text. A historical work covering the period of Maria Cristina of Habsburg-Lorraine regency in Spain at the end of the 19th C. and the beginning of the 20th C. Pirala, a 19th century Spanish historian, presents a detailed description of the most important political and social events of the time. Maria Christina Henriette Desideria Felicitas Raineria of Austria (Spanish: María Cristina de Habsburgo-Lorena) was Queen of Spain as the second wife of Alfonso XII. She was queen regent during the vacancy of the throne between her husband’s death in November 1885 and the birth of their son Alfonso XIII in May 1886, and subsequently also until the latter’s coming of age in May 1902. The House of Habsburg-Lorraine (German: Haus Habsburg-Lothringen) originated from the marriage in 1736 of Francis III, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, and Maria Theresa of Austria, later successively Queen of Bohemia, Queen of Hungary, Queen of Croatia and Archduchess of Austria. Its members are the legitimate surviving line of both the House of Habsburg and the House of Lorraine and inherit their patrimonial possessions from their female line of the House of Habsburg and from the male line of the House of Lorraine.
