Description
EXTREMELY RARE photo lithograph map.
Lieutenant General Robert Lee Bullard (1861-1947) saw mind-boggling developments in military technology and strategy over the course of his lifetime. He served in the Spanish-American War and shortly thereafter was sent to the Philippines to quell – what the Americans called – the local revolution or Philippine Insurrection. There he led the 39th U.S. Volunteer Infantry, known colloquially as ‘Bullard’s Indians’ for their guerilla tactics in the field. This map shows the unit’s theatre of operations south of Manila. Roads and trails are noted throughout much of the image, but even the simple hachured topography gives some indication of the rugged terrain. The locations of over two dozen different engagements are noted with small battle flags. Traced by George Sipple and probably published around 1902. Prepared for the 39th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Association.
Condition
with folds as issued, creasing and faint wear along old fold lines, with some extraneaous wrinkling in the upper left, confined to the margins, one spot of discolouration, at the fold intersection in the upper left, one small pinhole in the lower right corner, overall very good condition.
