copper engraving.
Untitled chart of the Philippines, oriented with North to the left, showing the archipelago excluding the Southern Islands of Mindanao & Palawan., from ‘Oud en nieuw Oost-Indien’ [Old and New East India], which describes the countries of the Far East and the role of the VOC (Dutch East India Company); Valentijn (1666-1727) was a Dutch minister, naturalist and author who probably had access to the V.O.C.’s archive of maps and geographic trade secrets. Like the very similar but even rarer map by van Keulen, one of the earliest large charts obtainable from this period, showing the Philippines alone.
with centerfold as issued, virtually pristine condition. EXTREMELY RARE.
