RARE view from the first edition of ‘Borneo and the Indian Archipelago, with Drawings of Costumes and Scenery’.
Frank Marryat (1826-1855) lived a short life as a sailor, artist, and author. These drawings were made as a 17-year-old midshipman during his trip on HMS Samarang in 1843 which also touched on the Philippines. It was the last Samarang trip of Sir Edward Belcher, sailing through Singapore, Hongkong and Macao.
