RARE complete Magazine, pp. 98-112, with illustrations including 1 page (p.101) views in the Philippines with article. This weekly French magazine, founded by Edouard Charton, was published in Paris from 1843 to 1944. L’Illustration became the first French newspaper to publish a photograph in 1891 and a colour photograph in 1907. The magazine was shut down in 1944 following the Liberation of Paris. Another version re-opened in 1945 under the name France-Illustration, but went bankrupt in 1957. Frontispiece: ‘Le général Simpson, commandant de l’armée anglaise devant Sébastopol.’ The Philippine page features:
