A Sales Exhibition of very rare large original chromolithographs and other prints and antique books of Philippine flora and fauna, including tropical botanical views and scenes attributable to the Philippines, done in the 19th century and earlier. From the 16th century Dutch voyager and artist Jan Linschoten, to the early 17th century German artist Basilius Besler, and the mid 17th century Italian Giovanni Ferrari, from the great 18th century French artists Benard and Chatelain to their German colleagues Ehret and Weinmann, from the incomparable Dutch Madame Berthe Hoola van Nooten to our very own Padre Manuel Maria Blanco, all celebrated the beauty of Philippine and other tropical fruits and flowers.
Among the luscious lifelike renditions of fruits we find Nangka, Suha, Cashew, and Durian, garden varieties like the Balimbing, and the flowering trees like the Amherstia Nobilis, by now very rare. Executed in a scientifically exacting yet tastefully vibrant style, these works are a bounty of botanical information as well as aesthetic and high historical value.
The GALLERY OF PRINTS framed these rare large scale original prints to museum-quality standards.
This Sales Exhibit of 60 antique prints is simultaneously presented in the two venues of the GALLERY OF PRINTS:
29 prints in our new Gallery at the Glorietta Artspace, 3rd floor, Ayala Center, Makati City and 31 prints in our Gallery at SM Megamall, Art Floor, Mandaluyong.
Exhibit Period: 8 May – 22 May 2000
