First Bilingual Edition (Spanish and English), published by San Agustin Museum, Intramuros, Manila. Conquistas de las Islas Filipinas (1565-1615) is a chronicle of Philippine History as gleaned from the records of this pioneer priest and those who followed in their mission, as told by the seventeenth-century friar, Gaspar de San Agustin.
This book is a richly detailed work, filled with observations on early Philippine costumes, burial practices and babaylan rituals. It contains the earliest written record of the Filipino creation myth explaining the origin of the first man and woman. Regarded by T.H. Pardo de Tavera as the “most interesting” of the Spanish chronicles, it was acknowledged by Rizal as an important historical source.
