3 original-colour lithograph maps (Magellan Strait, Galapagos & World Map showing Skogman’s Route, 6 wood engraving and 20 lithograph views of which 18 are original-colour, (including 2 of Philippines) and 2 toned; PH: chapter XIV, pp. 118 – 136, hardbound, full cloth, gilt title on spine, gilted covers. RARE. First edition of the official account of the first Swedish circumnavigation. Two volumes in one. The expedition went to South America, Panama, California, Hawaii, the Pacific, Tahiti, Australia, Hongkong, Canton, the Philippines, Singapore, Mauritius, and the Cape of Good Hope. The beautiful coloured plates are engaraved after the author’s drawings, including his famous pair of a Philippine man in full regalia and aborigine woman.
