Description
14 pp, title printed in red and yellow, on coloured illustrated wrappers, featuring a busy Manila street and the harbour, with several photos and a world map centred on the Philippines. EXTREMELY RARE. Charming 1915 folding Guide booklet to the Philippines, published by the Manila Merchants Association, Manila, one of the earliest available. With cover illustrations of lively Calle Escolta, the main shopping street at the time, and a bird’s eye view of the Manila Harbour, Intramuros, Binondo, Tondo, and beyond, by T. Gaudinez. Manila Merchants Association was the former name of AmCham (The American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, Inc.), formed in 1902 and incorporated in 1920. In 1912, The Bureau of Printing, Manila, published a book “The Philippines, The Land of Palm and Pine”, from which this booklet may have borrowed its title; that book was accompanied by a large map created by the eminent John Bach in 1911, equally with the same title – see references # 11804 and # 60774.
