Eastern sheet of Coronelli’s splendid Asia map, dedicated to the Jesuit missionaries’ work in China and other places in Asia, centered on the Philippines, China (Great Wall is visible), Japan and Korea, showing the latest discoveries in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, and with Tartary to Australia which is connected to New Guinea. Vincenzo Coronelli (1650 – 1718) was a Franciscan Priest in Venice, one of the most celebrated cartographers of the 17th Century, known for designing & producing large globes for King Louis XVI.
