EXTREMELY RARE portrait from ‘De Nieuwe En Onbekende Weereld’ in Amsterdam. The seated Magellan appears in a decorative roundel holding a globe and a pair of compasses with the point of Magellan’s compass pointing to the southern tip of South America – the Straits of Magellan. Behind Magellan, a sea scape and sailing ship are visible.
