This is the German edition of Dumont d’Urville’s “Voyage Pittoresque Autour du Monde… ” published in 1834 which contains the famous narrative on the Philippines with its iconic Philippine engravings.
Dumont d’Urville (1790-1842) was a French explorer and naval officer. For 38 months he explored the South and Western Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, and Antarctica. Several seaweeds, plants, and shrubs are named after him, as well as D’Urville Island.
The writer and editor Diezmann (1805-1869) translated numerous works from English and French and published two paperbacks and several newspapers and magazines.
Louis Auguste de Sainson was the official artist of Captain Dumont d’Urville’s voyage.
