Description

362pp., hardbound with fully-colour dust-jacket, with 174 coloured plates. Limited edition reprint.

The paintings of wild flowers by Cythna Letty have earned for her the distinction of being referred to as South Africa’s greatest botanical artist. Justification for this claim is to be found in the 174 colour plates reproduced in this volume. The text accompanying these plates was prepared by Dr. R. A. Dyer, Miss Inez Verdoorn and Dr. L. E. Codd with the assistance of Estelle van Hoepen, Mayda de Winter, Amelia Mauve and other members of the staff of the National Herbarium in the Division of Botany, Department of Agricultural Technical Services. Text and plates together give a bird’s-eye view of some of the more attractive species in the flora of the Transvaal, whilst the text relates the illustrated species to the flora of the rest of southern Africa and to plants of world economic importance. [from the dust-jacket]
