This book has been published in conjunction with the exhibition Cleopatra, The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt, held at Philadephia from June 5, 2010 to January 2, 2011. This remarkable book for the YOUTH takes readers on an undersea adventure as they follow Franck Goddio and his daring team of underwater archaeologists searching for artifacts from lost cities. Spellbinding photographs show how, like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, finds from the seabed provide a new picture of what life was like in Egypt during the age of Cleopatra. The book comprises 8 pages of the treasure hunt for the galleon ‘San Diego’ in the Philippines, which sank in 1600 or about 425 years ago and was found by Goddio in deep Batangas waters near Fortune Island – a victim of the famous battle between Spanish Governor Antonio de Morga and Dutch “freebooter” Olivier van Noort – the original antique prints featured in this book are all available and can be appreciated in the Gallery of Prints.

Marianne Meyer Bianchi has worked as a teacher specialising in Egyptology for 25 years in Switzerland. Franck Goddio, one of the world’s leading underwater archaeologists, has spent decades detecting and recovering ancient shipwrecks and searching for the remains of sunken cities. He is the author of many books, has been the subject of numerous TV documentaries and has created worldwide exhibitions based on his research.
