English edition of the French original “La Mystère…”, on the occasion of the exhibition “The Treasures of the San Diego” at The Philippine Consulate General, New York, from November 1, 1996 to February 28, 1997 in coordination with Association Française d’Action Artistique, Paris, and Foundation Elf, Paris, and Elf Aquitaine International Foundation, Inc., New York.
with colour photos and copies of antique prints by Olivier van Noort and others – all in the collection of the Gallery of Prints.
A rare exhibition catalog which provides the historical background and the salvage details of the Spanish merchant galleon, “San Diego”, which sunk in action in Manila Bay by Dutch forces in 1600, along with over 5,000 artifacts which were entombed when the ship went down. She was discovered after extensive archive studies and electronical surveys by Franck Goddio (one of the editors), in coordination with the National Museum of the Philippines, and excavated from 1991 to 1994.
