In observance of the Philippine Centennial of its Declaration of Independence, the Gallery of Prints presents the re-print of its first publication – a coffee table book – “The Philippines in the 19th Century” by Rudolf J.H. Lietz.

Showing the Philippines a century past in her multifarious wonders, the book is divided into eight chapters:
(1) Voyages,
(2) Maps,
(3) Ornithology,
(4) Botany,
(5) Costumes and People,
(6) Manila Scenes – Rural Landscapes,
(7) Illustrated Magazines, and
(8) Spanish-American War – Philippine Struggle for Independence.

All featured images are prints either still in the collection of the Gallery of Prints or held in the past and now in private hands.
